Jobs
Ron Herrell will fight to protect local workers, encourage small business job creation, and attract new quality jobs to our area instead of just giving tax breaks to companies for creating low-wage jobs. And he strongly disagrees with Governor Daniels’ claim in Kokomo that “any Hoosier should be happy with a $9 an hour job,” so Ron Herrell will fight to make sure families in Howard County can maintain reasonable wages.
Education
Ron Herrell will fight to restore state funding to local schools that the Legislature just cut. And he will always fight to give our local teachers the tools they need to give our kids a world class education. While serving as a state representative, Ron authored legislation that would require state universities to accept a greater number of credits from our community colleges, helping more students get college degrees.
Healthcare
Bulk purchasing power is the key to lowering healthcare costs, so Ron Herrell will fight to allow small businesses to join together to negotiate better rates.
Our community home health care agencies are cutting services because of changes at the state level. Ron Herrell will work to expand in-home care for seniors to save costs and allow them to live with dignity.
Immigration
Ron Herrell supports tougher enforcement of the immigration laws that are already in place, as well as an increase in penalties for those employers hiring illegal immigrants. The Hoosier economy and Hoosier workers must be protected, not blamed or punished for the failures at our nation’s borders.
Privatization
Ron Herrell does not support selling out Indiana to out-of-state and foreign companies. The sale of the Indiana Toll Road is a prime example of Indiana’s assets being sold off one by one to non-Hoosier companies. The privatization of Indiana’s Family and Social Services Administration is another example of the direction the current administration is leading us.
Taxes
As a state legislator, Ron Herrell supported bipartisan budgets that required the State to cover 60% of the cost of funding our schools, helping to keep property taxes lower. Ron also understands the burden high property taxes places on those that have fixed incomes.
